By using The Kitchen Table you agree to these terms. We've kept them short and readable on purpose.
Who we are
The Kitchen Table is made and run in New Zealand by Mark Steven, trading as Paragon Design (“we”, “us”). New Zealand law applies to these terms.
Who it's for
Parents and caregivers aged 18 or over create a family and invite their teenagers. Teenagers (roughly 11 to 18) can only join by invitation from a parent or caregiver, and they own their own account and password. Please only invite young people you're responsible for.
What it is — and isn't
The Kitchen Table helps parents and teens talk and understand each other. Its AI features (the translator, “How will this land?”, Meet Halfway, the coach and the Weekly Pulse) give best-guess suggestions. They can be wrong, and they aren't professional, medical, psychological or legal advice.
It is not a crisis or emergency service. If anyone is in danger, call 111. For free support any time in New Zealand, call or text 1737.
Your words are yours
You own what you write. You give us permission to store it, encrypt it and process it only to run the app for you — for example, to show a message to the person you sent it to, or to let the coach reply. We don't sell it or use it for advertising. See the privacy page for exactly who can see what.
Using it kindly
Please don't use The Kitchen Table to harass, threaten or harm anyone, to break the law, to try to get into someone else's account, or to interfere with how the service works. We may suspend accounts that do.
Plus, payments and cancelling
- New families get a free Plus trial. No card is needed, and when it ends your family simply moves to the free plan. Nothing is deleted.
- Plus is billed monthly or yearly in New Zealand dollars, through Stripe, and renews automatically until cancelled. One subscription covers everyone in the family.
- You can cancel any time from Your plan. Plus then continues until the end of the period you've paid for, and won't renew.
- We don't usually give partial refunds, but if something has gone wrong, talk to us — we're reasonable. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
- If we ever change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it affects your family.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings at any time. It permanently removes your account and everything you wrote.
Changes and availability
We're a small team and we work hard to keep The Kitchen Table running, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. We may improve or change features over time. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app first.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you've paid us in the previous 12 months. This doesn't affect rights you have that can't be excluded by law.
